On 30th April, Natalie and Poppy were invited to a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by Their Majesties The King and Queen to celebrate the work of community-based initiatives supporting people with cancer.

Among 400 guests, we were lucky enough to meet both The King and Queen to exchange a few words about the ballet classes we teach for the cancer community with Fireflies Fitness CIC.

We attended the reception along with three of our dancers who come to our classes at the Royal Academy of Dance, funded by Macmillan Cancer Support. The classes allow the dancers to momentarily forget about the treatment and side effects that they are going through, and dance to music in beautiful studios, alongside a group who are also going through their own cancer journeys. The classes have created a wonderful support group for those that attend, providing a safe space to share experiences and social events to support their mental health, which can be heavily impacted when undergoing cancer treatment.

We have had a lot of positive feedback from those who attend our classes regularly, and so it was special to be able to celebrate this. The event at Buckingham Palace was a surreal, magical evening with a room full of people who are dedicated to their work within the cancer community. We feel so lucky to have been invited and it is something that we will never forget!

If you, or someone you know, has had a cancer diagnosis and would like to attend one of our classes, you can find details at:
